our timber

The Paulownia plantation is farmed and the trees are constantly pruned to remove all lower braches.  This means that our timber is relatively free from knots and other markings.  Most of our timber is back sawn to enhance the natural grain of the species.  Some planks, mainly near the core of the log, have different grain patterns and markings which makes the timber more interesting for some uses. These are usually sold as second/third grade timber dependent upon the markings and other factors.

A wide range of Paulownia products are available.  Rough sawn timber is in thicknesses of 10 mm, 16 mm, 25 mm, 32 mm, 40 mm, 50 mm, 75 mm and 100 mm and in widths up to 300 mm depending on the thickness.  We can also supply tongue and groove lining boards, V Joint or Ship Lap, in 90 mm and 140 mm widths.  Most timber is available in lengths up to 4.8 metres. It has proved impossible to stock all products and we had to make a decision to stock only the most frequently required timber. Other sizes are available on order and should be delivered within 4 - 8 weeks. Large orders (over $600.00) could be supplied much sooner.

Much of the timber has been washed to remove sap stain and after air drying it is kiln dried to 11% before being allowed to resettle at air moisture content.

Because we are a small business we are happy to cut timber to suit your individual needs such as the all the timber sizes for the framing of a small sail boat or to produce planks that are not standard sizes.

In order to help meet the needs of some of our customers we now have the equipment that enable us to produce strip planks in thickness from 3 mm to 12 mm dressed and in widths up to 100mm. These can also be ordered just as the timber comes off the band saw or dressed to your individual requirements. The price for this timber is dependent on each customer’s requirements and has not been included in our price list. As an example a strip 6 x 25 mm would be 55 cents per l/m cut with a fine tooth saw but undressed.
